Food and Food Supplements: Which Is Better?

Scheduling meals five to six times a day can test your commitment to your nutritional plan. Sometimes, it would feel like all you're thinking about are your meals. This is totally expected because you'll constantly shop, cook and pack your food so that it's ready when you need it. Because we lead such hectic lives, eating five to six meals a day can be too much of a hassle. That's where food supplements come in. Convenience is a prime commodity nowadays. Food supplements provide food in conveniently packaged forms making it easier for us. Natural or whole foods are better compared to supplements, but getting something is better than getting nothing at all.

Getting adequate amounts of protein for muscle growth can be a challenge. Proteins are the building blocks of the body and as such are absolutely essential to muscle development. The best way to get protein is to include small quantities of it in every meal. Proteins rev up metabolism and put you in an anabolic state, especially when combined with good training and adequate rest. If it's a problem for you to include egg whites, lean chicken and red meat or fish with every meal, a protein powder may help you get your daily protein requirement.

Adenosine triphosphate is a much acclaimed supplement for people who are heavily involved in sports and fitness activities. Adenosine triphosphate or ATP is an important carrier of energy in cells in the body. It is used during the initial seconds of muscle contraction. ATP is usually found in red meats and its effects have been widely studied. For people who require strength and power, ATP in supplement form is available as tasteless, odorless powder. Four to six teaspoons per day is needed as initial dosing for the first five days. Thereafter, two to three teaspoons per day is the recommended dose for maintenance.

Essential fatty acids are abundant in flaxseed oil. They are not bad fats but fats that can actually help you lose fat, gain muscle, increase energy and stay healthy. Essential fatty acids, namely omega 3's and omega 6's can help keep you in an anabolic state because they are energy sources. They prevent muscles from being broken down when there is a need for energy. Nuts, seeds, cold water fishes and unsaturated, unprocessed oils are good sources of essential fatty acids. Supplemental flaxseed oils contain all essential fatty acids you need in one or two tablespoons.

The best foods are natural, unrefined and unprocessed. Most of the time, however, we don't get enough of these nutrients because of our hectic and fast paced life. Food supplements are convenient sources of foods we may not get adequate amounts of. In terms of convenience, food supplements top the list. In terms of quality, nothing beats natural, unprocessed food.
